The DOT is making drastic changes to the requirements when it comes to the DOT/ CDL Physical Exam. As of May 21, 2014 drivers will be required to use a Certified Medical Examiner (CME) in the National Registry to receive a valid DOT Medical Exam certificate card. Beginning May 21, 2014 Motor Carriers must verify that their DOT Physical Exam was performed by a CME in the National Registry. To become a Certified Medical Examiner the examining physician must complete required DOT training and complete the required DOT exam. Due to the new requirements, many of the physicians and family physicians currently performing DOT/CDL Medical Exams may choose to not offer DOT Medical Exams after May, 21 2014. The new requirements could leave drivers searching for a place to receive a DOT Physical Exam.

Dr. Brent Spille is a registered medical examiner on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. Dr. Brent Spille has completed the required training and testing concerning the Federal DOT Physical Exam qualifications and standards.
