Pain And Problems
There's nothing wrong with getting rid of pain.
Who wants to suffer?
Those little pills are often seen as tiny gems offering temporary relief and peace.
But living on painkillers is no life.
Millions of people have hailed chiropractic as their drugless salvation from pain and suffering.
Dr. Hakes, using special procedures called spinal adjustments, releases the hold the vertebral subluxation complex has on your body and permits your body's natural healing energies to flow more freely.
Once free of subluxations your body can function more efficiently and better heal itself.
Going to a chiropractor may do more for someone's internal chemical health than all the medicines in all the drugstores in the world.
Pain has a purpose; it is a warning signal, like a fire alarm, telling you something is wrong and should be attended to, or a part should not be moved for healing (like a broken arm or damaged joints).
There are two types of pain: Acute and Chronic.
Acute pain may be mild to severe, and may come and go. Chronic pain lasts for more than six months and is the most challenging pain that doctors work with.
Sciatica and Leg Pain
Your sciatic nerve is your longest and largest nerve.
It is made up of five roots that leave your low back, join in your pelvis and then travel to the muscles and joints of your thigh, knee, calf, ankle, foot and toes.
If it becomes inflamed, the condition is called Sciatica.
Along with burning, sharp pains, you may also feel nerve sensations such as pins-and-needles, tingling, prickling, crawling sensations or tenderness.
Ironically, your leg(s) may also feel numb!
To millions of sciatica sufferers, chiropractic's unique approach to wellness has been a blessing.
Many have found that chiropractic was superior to traction and pain injections, often saving them from the prospect of having to live with pain, or perhaps face spinal surgery.
Even in those who have suffered for longer
periods and have been through the "medical runaround," chiropractic may provide excellent results.
Low Back Pain
About 85% of the population will experience
disabling low back pain at least once during their lives!
That's a lot of bad backs.
The estimated cost of this problem in the U.S. is over $50 billion a year.
The medical approach of muscle relaxers,
painkillers, rest and physical therapy is at times necessary even back surgery has a place.
However, many people who have had back
surgery report a recurrence of their symptoms within a year or two of the operation and may return to the operating table.
In 1994, the Federal Government sent shock
waves throughout the health care system when a definitive public pronouncement established chiropractic as one of the preferred and most effective methods of care for acute adult low back pain.
Why are the results so overwhelmingly in favor of chiropractic?
Because painkillers, muscle relaxers, Valium, braces, physical therapy and surgery are not designed to correct vertebral subluxations.
What's more, chiropractic is safer and
less costly than standard medicine for lower back complaints.
Shoulder, Arm and Hand Problems
Some people may blame their shoulder
(or other joint) problems on"old age" even though their other shoulder, which doesn't have any problems, is just as old.
The brachial plexus is made up of nerves
which come out of the middle and lower neck and upper back.
After they interconnect to form the brachial
plexus, they branch off to supply different areas, especially the shoulders, arms, elbows, wrists, hands and fingers.
Depending on which brachial plexus nerves
are damaged, different symptoms and problems may be experienced.
Conditions such as neck pain or stiffness;
shoulder, arm, wrist, hand or finger pain, headache, migraine, facial pain, dizziness, throat conditions, thyroid and nasal problems and even epilepsy have been reported as being caused by brachial plexus damage.
Even if your fender-bender or fall did
not cause you any great pain or symptoms, it would be wise to have your spine checked to see if any vertebrae have been "knocked out of place" or subluxated.
Neck Problems
With all of the neck's complexity it should come as no surprise that neck problems are common.
They may develop suddenly from a trauma
such as a whiplash or fall, or slowly as a result of spinal imbalance, vertebral subluxations, emotional stress or bad posture.
Pain can be caused by irritation, inflammation, injury or infection.
The standard medical approach is painkillers, muscle relaxers and/or tranquilizers.
However, without chiropractic spinal care,
a neck injury might continue to cause silent damage for decades before the problem is recognized; by that time it may be too late for a complete recovery.
Hip, Sacroiliac and Leg Problems
Each of your hip bones was originally
three separate bones in infancy which fused at about puberty.
When your hips are uneven, your legs become uneven; one appears longer than the other.
This is most noticeable when you lie down and is often used as a chiropractic test.
More pressure is placed on the long leg
when you walk, the knees, hips, ankle and feet on that side of your body may show pain and implicated an unbalanced hip in most adults with low back pain.
